Orlando is one of the fastest-growing cities in the nation. As such, it is home to some of the newest buildings, and thus some of the the newest ideas and designs in architecture.
These are images of some of the the
buildings and cityscapes of downtown Orlando. Orlando is a sprawling
city, and there are many other centers of growth and building; but
downtown remains a showcase, marked by efforts by architects and city
to achieve harmony in design among both old and new. The styles of the
buildings vary from the first images, of homes and buildings dating
from the 1920s and 1930s, to glass slabs built in the 1970s and 1980s,
to new postmodern architecture, which combines the glass slab with
neoclassical elements.
Notes on the images:
-- In many images, I corrected for
vertical perspective, using Photoshop transformations. In doing so, I
have tried to remain faithful to the actual proportions of the
buildings.
--Several of the wide-angle images, both vertically and horizontally,
are assemblages of several images.
This is a preliminary essay. I will soon
include narrative details on each of the structures and cityscapes
shown here.
